Thoughtful Thinking Thursday #111 ~ Mailbox Companion

 What is your mailbox's companion?
Is it flowers, a sign, nothing.
(a drive by camera shot.)
Or, a representative of the cash crop you raise?

Game Pieces

With the Checkers quilt block posted this past Saturday, there had to be some game pieces to play the game.  Making cloth game pieces provides light weight pieces easy to store with the quilt block.

Memory Mon 68~ One Room Schools

 close to Millersburg, KY, USA
When I was born, folks were still attending one room schools in my neighborhood of Kentucky.
Every single one room school I've seen sitting out in rural fields are all built exactly alike.
By the time I started school, they had all been closed in our county and maybe the state by about 2 years.
The opening of a new elementary school in my neighborhood, closed several one room schools.
Like education usually does, philosophy came full circle in the late 90s & early 2000 in Kentucky,
with the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA)
by putting at least 3 grades together in one classroom.
Although, by that time, I'd already taught 2 grades in one classroom for many years.
Now that's a whole new set of memories.

Quilt Shot Block #99~ Checkers

14 ½ x 14 ½ inches
 2 inch strips

For an 8x8, 8 strips were used.
8 strips were cut 2 inches wide across.

It was important to me that intersections matched.
Nesting intersections didn't always work.
Pinning was more accurate for me.

 12 x 12"
This block will actually be used as a board game for checkers.
So a 3 inch boarder border was added.

Fun or Funny Fri Foto ~ Kentucky Covered Bridges- Johnson Creek

 Johnson Creek Covered Bridge
Blue Lick Springs, KY

Lat. / Long.: N 38.481927   W 83.978258
Built in: 1882
Truss Type: Smith

This was our second bridge to visit on Sunday, October 1, 2017.
See map below for our route.
We've driven close by this bridge many times
as we traveled the 400 Mile Yard Sale on highway 68 yard in June for several years.

On this day we happened upon a potluck dinner and
celebration of 150 years of history in Robertson County.

They graciously invited us to stay and eat, but we moved on to see more bridges before sun down.

Thoughtful Thinking Thursday #110 ~ Cushioned Thoughts

A quick make and take at the Quilt Guild the other night.
The first thought I had is I cannot use the long quilting pins.
Ouch.
Perfect for the small pins.
My wrist pin cushion has a piece of cardboard to prevent the sticking.
Still thinking I'll use my wrist cushion the most.
The thumb cushion may go in my traveling sewing box?
What do you think?
