Ohio Covered Bridges ~ Part 4

Olins Bridge
Olins / Dewy Road
Location: Ashtabula, OH
Lat. / Long.: N 41.86273   W 80.720898
Built in: 1873

Then we came upon a bridge that I didn't have on my GPS list.
Have no idea how I overlooked it, because it is a famous bridge.
The longest covered bridge in the U.S and fourth longest in the world!
Smolen-Gulf Bridge
It also has to be the widest as it includes walks on each side of the double lanes.

Location: Ashtabula, OH
Lat. / Long.: N 41.855458   W 80.762209
Built in: 2008
We first drove through and went down the old road. No good view of the bridge from that side, but the foliage was awesome.
Drove back through and stopped at the Visitor's station on the other side.
There we found all the history & details of the bridge.
The old bridge that was replaced.
Then you can drive on down to the other lower side.
There was no way I could get a real view to show the greatness of over 600 feet.
Location of old road and previous covered bridge.
Note how narrow the state highway was at the time.
It's a heavily traveled road now.
THE most beautiful time to be tracking down covered bridges!
My camera hardly had a moment's rest.
Yet another attempt at capturing the length of the bridge.
The best shot of the bridge was when we pulled out of the Visitor's Station at sun down.
As we were leaving out on Highway 11, we could see the long roof of the Smolen-Gulf Bridge.
It was pretty amazing to us.
A great way to end a day of Covered Bridge hunting.
You should try it.
