Titusville, Fl Quilt Show ~ Master of the Rose Quilt

I would call a lady that designed, created and put together a very complicated quilt while she was 87/88 years old and still making quilts @ age 92 for needy people a "Master of Quilt Making."

I counted 100 squares of roses.  I couldn't get the whole quilt in the frame of my camera.
I was fortunate to talk to the creator of this beautiful quilt.  She was a very humble person.
I asked how many different rose designs did she create.  Her answer: "about 60."
Here are just a few of those 60+ roses she designed and put together.

Titusville, Fl Quilt Show- More

For some quilts, I had to take a close view for details.

My camera did manage to catch the glint in one of the eyes where a green bead had been placed in each eye of the animals.  I caught one eye.

I'm guessing you cut out the animal in one fabric, cut it apart and turn under edges and applique?
What a perfect idea for a giraffe!

Definitely fiber art!
An artist has to have an eye for the right shade of fabric and where to place it.  I also noticed the added quilting in the right place adds texture where needed.  Amazing!

You can see more quilts from the Titusville, Fl Show on the last post.
I plan to post a quilt created and made by a 92 year old lady I got to meet.

Titusville Quilt Show- My First to See

Mr. G and I had a great time on our Winter Trip to Florida.  Again, we just ran about with no purpose and enjoyed whatever came into our path.

As we drove through Titusville, a sign had been posted across Highway 1 going through Titiusville that told us a quilt show was happening as we were passing through.  After inquiring, we found it at Brevard Community College.

So we stopped and enjoyed what is really my very first quilt show to ever attend.

I could have spent hours but instead took a picture of every single quilt I came across so I could look at them again and again later.

Sharing just few in this post.

The reason I'm so attracted by pieced quilts with no sashing is the longer you look the more patterns pop out.  It's also a challenge to figure out how they are put together.

The quilt above was entitled, "Log Cabin in a Storm."
This was the quilt that made me realize I took for granted that Mr. G knew quilt block patterns had names.  He could not understand where the name came from for this quilt until I told him the main pattern was the "Log Cabin."

While Mr. G would have been happier in some sports museum, he did walk around and take notice of the quilts.  He also took our tickets to the door prize board and found that one of them had won a packet of fabric!  Something I can use to create a memory of my first attendance of a quilt show.

Just loved the contrast in this quilt.
Will post more quilts later.
Hope Mr. G is ready to travel around to some more quilt shows.  I'm hooked.
And yes, I'll keep looking for sports arenas in return.

Leather Pants Purse

Sharing at several Linky Parties.

Recently recycled a pair of leather pants bought on the 400 mile yard sale last summer.  Made a purse for my teenage Grand Daughter.
As I look back at my "Our 400 Mile Yard Sale Treasure" post, I see the pants cost 50¢.
The button from my collection that I created years ago before Goodwill days when you just used old clothes as rags for cleaning, etc. Before sending clothes to the rag bag, I cut out zippers and took off buttons.  I'm still using those buttons and zippers.
So essentially the purse cost 50¢.

Took the label from the pants and stitched inside the purse for care instructions.

Quickie Diaper Bag

Sharing at several Linky Parties.

I used my own pattern.  I've made so many purses with this method, I just do a rough cut and cut out the size I need.
This is like the church purse but no zipper.

I've always liked bright colors for babies.

I used a heavy knit fabric (some would call vintage) for the inner lining to give some body to the bag.

When I reinforce the handles with this cross, they never come apart.

If I can, I put my name in an inconspicuous place on pieces I make.
I folded over a section at the top of the strap (shoulder area), and stitched to give a little more support (stay put power).
